About John M. Power

As an attorney, former adjunct professor of law, and legal columnist, John Power has dedicated himself to the private practice of law since graduating from law school.

John is the founder and senior partner of Power Law Firm LLP, which concentrates exclusively in the area of trusts, estates, and elder law. He is admitted to the bar of New Jersey, where the firm maintains its principal office. He is also admitted to the bar of New York. His firm maintains an active branch office in New York City. He specializes in tax savings opportunities for family wealth transfers and asset protection.

As a dynamic and highly acclaimed speaker and seminar leader, John is sought after for his ability to reduce complex legal principles to understandable concepts. He has been a frequent guest on radio and television.

John is a regular contributor to various publications, for many years authored a monthly legal column in a well - known professional journal, and for eleven years served as an adjunct professor of law at Columbia University.

Experience

John is a certified public accountant as well as an attorney. He is a member of the trusts and estates sections of the bar associations of New Jersey and New York, as well as the American Bar Association. He is a member and Fellow of the American Academy of Estate Planning Attorneys and the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys. He is admitted to practice before all of the courts of New Jersey and New York, as well as the U.S. Supreme Court, U.S. Tax Court, and various U.S. District Courts and Courts of Appeal.

Education

John attended New York University's Stern School of Business as an undergraduate on an academic scholarship. He achieved a record of distinction and graduated with a bachelor's degree in accounting. He then earned a Juris Doctor degree from St. John's University School of Law and, thereafter, earned a Master of Laws degree in Taxation from the Graduate Division of New York University School of Law.

Personal

John resides in New Jersey with his wife Mary Ann. They have two married sons. He is a voracious reader, traveler, and jazz enthusiast.
